Percent Increase In Tonnage Index According To The American
Trucking Association
The American Trucking Association reports a second consecutive
monthly gain in it’s adjusted For-Hire Truck Tonnage
Index. An increase of 1.2 percent was reported for March
2007. Bob Costello, ATA Chief Economist, said “the
year over year improvement was a positive sign, but that
the industry was not out of the woods just yet.”

OOIDA And Others File Suit To Stop
Mexican Trucking Companies From Operating In The U.S.
The Owner Operator Independen Drivers Association (OOIDA)
has joined with five other organizations to file a lawsuit
seeking an injunction of the President's cross border trucking
program. Other members of the group include the International
Brotherhood of Teamsters, The Sierra Club, The Environmental
Law Foundation, Public Citizen and the Brotherhood of Teamsters
Auto and Truck Drivers Local 70.
The suite challenges the governments plan for a pilot program
that authorizes up to 100 Mexian trucking companies to operate
long haul operations in the U.S.
